League

Bredagh showed no signs of going off the boil as they made short work of Downpatrick on Sunday evening. They dominated the proceedings from the throw-in running out easy winners in a one sided contest. Castlewellan were also on the road as they made the journey to Rostrevor. The reds started brightly but the town girls greater experience stood by them in what was a very comfortable win. Annaclone suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Saval and remain rooted to the bottom of the table. They are slowly running out of games in order to save themselves and their encounter with Rostrevor in a few weeks time will be crucial.

In the Intermediate league Ballymartin got a much needed win in Belfast against Bredagh to keep the pressure on league leaders Carryduff. This win puts a little bit of daylight between the other challengers but Carryduff not to be outdone put in another good performance over Burren and keep their undefeated status in check. Carryduff really do look unstoppable at the minute but with Ballymartin lurking in the shadows they can’t afford any slip-ups. Bright made the long trip to Newry to take on Shamrocks and in a very entertaining and open game they shared the spoils. This was a great result for Shamrocks and it puts an end to any chance Bright harboured of league honours.

In the Junior league, Mayobridge were made to fight for their lives in a very keenly contested encounter against Tullylish. The sky-blues ran out six point winners in a game that could just of easily went either way. The win keeps them on top and moving closer to league honours. St. Johns were in action against St. Michaels and they found the going tough before disposing of the South Down side. In the other game Saul met Drumgath and having shared the spoils the last time they met, Saul made sure of victory to claim only their second win of the season.

In the U-16 league, Ballymartin defeated Burren in an entertaining game at Pats road to remain on top of section A. Carryduff on the road to Bosco kept up the challenge by narrowly defeating the Newry side in a close and high scoring game. In section B, Annaclone and Saul defeated Shamrocks and Bright respectively as they both battle it out for top spot while Clonduff claimed the bragging rights over neighbours Rostrevor.

The week ahead

There are fixtures scheduled for mid-week with only a few games on offer. On Tuesday night Clonduff travel to Bredagh and they will be looking to put in a better performance than the last time they met. Bredagh are in fantastic form and will be hard to stop but if there is any side in the County capable of doing it then Clonduff are the best bet but purely on form it looks like another win on the cards for the belles. Downpatrick travel to Bryansford on Wednesday night and will be hoping to complete the double over them. Bryansford will be seeking a win to get back on track and home advantage may be just enough to swing the result in their favour. In the Junior league Tullylish should be too strong for Saul. On Thursday night Burren entertain Loughinisland. Burren have found a nice rich vein of form and they look well placed to take both points. On Saturday night Clonduff meet Drumgath in the Junior league and the yellows should have enough experience in depth to take the points on offer
