Drama in Birr as Cork squeeze through

The TG4 Ladies Football Championship reached the Round 2 Qualifier stage. Mayo were the convincing winners in Longford as they dominated Westmeath in the first half and ran out 5-11 to 0-11 point winners. The second match was a closer affair but despite a late rally Clare could not match Tyrone’s accuracy in front of goal as they ran out 1-15 to 1-09 winners.

In Birr it was third time lucky for Laois who recorded their first victory in 3 attempts this season against neighbours Meath on a scoreline of 0-07 to 1-14. Cork and Armagh produced a dramatic encounter in the second game of the day as the All Ireland Champions were lucky to record a 1 point victory in a match that saw the return of Juliet Murphy for the Rebellettes. Cork were victorious in the end on a scoreline of 2-09 to 0-16.
