09 February 2004 Dublin B lose narrowly to Wexford Share this Article 0 0 0 Shares! 0 Shares! MATCH REPORT: Dublin B 0- 05 – Wexford 1- 03 8th February 2004. Mobhi Road, Glasnevin. Na Fiannas Mobhi Road hallowed turf was the venue for the Dublins ladies Senior and Senior B teams only home games of this years Suzuki National League. While the senior team had a very comprehensive win over Leinster rivals Laois the B team games was a different affair entirely. Their opposition Wexford are a team in a redevelopment stage having recently been re-graded to Junior Status. The game was very closely contested and at times a very dogged and tough encounter. Wexford were on the scoreboard first with a fine point from Centre forward Ciara Scallan. Dublin who were playing win the wind in the first half failed to convert numerous chances in front of the Wexford goal and at the interval found themselves trailing by two points, half time score Dublin 0-00, Wexford 0-02. Wexfords second point came from a free courtesy of Wexford half forward Michelle Hinchey. Dublins up their performance in the second half and brought the game level with points from Roisin Gillen and Angela Gallagher. The second half remained as tough as the first with Dublin finding it hard to convert their chances in front of the Wexford posts. Wexford edged in front with a point from Sinead Kearns. Ten minutes into the second half Dublin were awarded a penalty when full forward Lorena Aver was fouled inside the small square however Dublins scoring luck remained unchanged as Angela Gallaghers shot was saved by Wexford keeper Aine Murphy. Ironically five minutes later Wexford were also awarded a penalty when Lizzie Kent was tripped as she advanced on the Dublin goal. Dublin keeper Caroline Hughes showed off her goalkeeping skills proving she was equal to her Wexford counterpart when she superbly stopped the penalty shot from Wexfords Ciara Scallan. Just as Dublin seemed to be getting to grips at midfield and levelled the game with a point from first half substitute Ciara Burgess Dublin received a blow when Wexford got an opportunist goal. A long range shot from Wexfords Michelle Hinchey got caught the breeze and sailed past Dublins keeper Caroline Hughes and into the top corner of the Dublin net. Dublin bravely fought back with further points from Anna McGillicuddy and Angela Gallagher put when match referee Liam Tierett blew the final whistle is was the Slaneysiders who gave a loudest cheer having secured two valuable league points with a one point victory of the Dubs.
