DUBLIN’S Sinéad Aherne is the Croke Park Hotel/LGFA Player of the Month award winner for May. The individual accolade for the 32-year-old Dublin skipper adds further gloss to what was a memorable Lidl National League campaign. The Sky Blues won the Division 1 title for the first time in the county’s history and Aherne played a key role. Throughout the 2018 competition, Aherne weighed in with 3-35, including a 1-9 haul in the final victory over Mayo at Parnell Park, which earned Aherne the player of the match award. Seán Reid, Deputy General Manager of the Croke Park Hotel, presents Sinéad Aherne of Dublin with The Croke Park Hotel and LGFA Player of the Month award for May, at The Croke Park Hotel, Jones Road, in Dublin. Sinéad captained Dublin to the countys first Lidl Ladies National Football League Division 1 title on May 6, scoring 1-9 in the final against Mayo at Parnell Park and earning the prestigious Player of the Match award. There was also a 0-6 haul against Galway in the group phase, 0-4 in the victory over Mayo under lights in Castlebar, and 0-3 on each occasion when Dublin defeated Cork at Croke Park and Galway in a nail-biting Division 1 semi-final. Dublin are now preparing for the TG4 Leinster senior final against Westmeath at Netwatch Cullen Park on July 1 (4.0). Aherne and Dublin will hope that the county team can embark on another successful championship run, following last September’s march to TG4 senior honours in front of a record 46,286 attendance at Croke Park. Dublin, with League honours under their belts, will start as many people’s favourites to retain the Brendan Martin Cup, under the continued guidance of manager Mick Bohan. Sinéad was presented with her award by Sean Reid, Deputy General Manager, The Croke Park Hotel. Share this Article 0 0
