Dublin defeat Kildare in Aisling McGing Championship

AISHLING McGING CHAMPIONSHIP KILDARE 1-07 DUBLIN 1-10

Victory went to Dublin in this hard fought encounter played in
Leixlip on Sunday last. Dublin settled quickly with a point from
corner forward Sarah Guilfoyle but Kildare struck back with two
quick points before Dublin’s Carla Moran levelled things up again.
As the rain came down Kildare’s forwards began to dominate and
scored 1-2 in matter of minutes. But the Dublin girls rallied
again and with points from Sarah Denvir Ciara Burgess and Angela
Gallagher to reduce the deficit to just one point which could
have been more only for a magnificent save from keeper Eilis O’Leary
on the stroke of half time. Dublin started the second half strongly
with another Denvir point and a superb Goal from Carla Moran but
the Kildare girls refused to give up and came back to score two
more points before Dublin’s Carrie O’Connor kicked two points
to restore Dublin’s lead.

Both teams were now playing like their lives depended on it in
terrible conditions but with Rhona Markham and sub Elena Griffin
beginning to dominate at midfield Dublin looked like they would
hold on for the win but back came the Kildare girls again with
a late rally but thanks to some brave defending from the likes
of Emma Gleeson Patricia Gordon and the brilliant Catherine Keaney
and player of the Match Eilis O’Leary Dublin held on to win what
was a terrific game of football
