Dublin Shock Cork to Claim Semi Final Place

Tyrone v Laois - TESCO HomeGrown Ladies National Football League Division 1 Round 7

It was a day of high drama in the top 3 divisions of the TESCO National Football Leagues. After the dust settled on the action we now know who will be playing in semi finals, who will be safe in the division and who has been relegated.

In Division 1 it took a fantastic display from Dublin to banish memories of painful defeats at the hands of Cork despite holding big leads. This time they scored 5 goals on the way to defeating the champions. Earlier in the day Kerry had defeated Monaghan in a fantastic tussle meaning that Dublin leapfrogged Monaghan to finish fourth in the table. There is now the mouth watering prospect of a Dublin v Galway semi final after the tribes defeated close neighbours, Mayo to clinch first position whilst great rivals Kerry and Cork will meet in the other semi final. At the bottom of the table it was Tyrone that won the relegation decider as they ran out comfortable winners over Laois.

It was all very tight at the top of Division 2 and still remains the case as Donegal and Cavan both recorded victories which means a play off between these two sides will be required to decide who tops the table. Armagh secured third place with a facile victory over already relegated Down with Westmeath making up the top 4 despite a heavy loss at the hands of Donegal. Westmeath will play the winner of the play off match with the loser facing the daunting prospect of a semi final against Armagh.

Division 3 also saw action at both ends of the table. Waterford defeated Leitrim to finish top of the league and they will now have to wait to see who they will face in their semi final as there is a three way tie below them between Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo with a draw taking place this week to decide the order. Tipperary relegated Longford to Division 4 with a deserved victory.
