dublin u12 blitz teams visit the lord mayor at the mansion house

Last Friday afternoon was a very special occasion as the Mansion House opened its doors to approximately 60 girls who represent Dublin GAA football at U12 level.

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Emer Costello is a keen Dublin GAA supporter and hosted a memorable function for the girls, their parents, mentors and DLGFA officials.

The girls represent various clubs throughout Dublin and will travel to Carlow on Saturday to play in the annual U12 Leinster football blitz.

Making friends and having fun was the theme of the day as the Lord Mayor casually chatted with the girls, mingled with parents and kindly posed for numerous photographs. She said,

“…Sport has a very important role in bringing young people together and I am sure the Leinster Blitz will give you the opportunity to make many new friends…”

Mentor Patrick Martin (St Brigid’s) presented a delighted Lord Mayor with a ‘Jackies Jersey’ and briefly outlined the development of Dublin Ladies Gaelic Football,

“…ladies Gaelic football is flourishing in Dublin at the moment at all levels but especially at under 12 level where we always ensure ‘fun’ is at the heart of our football…”

Fun, friendship and memories continued to dominate the Mansion House reception as Mentor Paul Nolan (Na Fianna) invited the Lord Mayor, the girls and their parents to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to the birthday girl – Lauren Tester (Liffey Gaels). What a memory for Lauren and her parents, Ann and Stephen!!

Finally the Lord Mayor wished the girls,

“…good luck with training, keep injury free and most importantly enjoy the great sporting event on August 22nd…”

Clearly the girls enjoyed the day, had great fun and made a new friend – the Lord Mayor of Dublin Emer Costello.
