Dublin v Wexford match report

Dublin survive late scare by Wexford in Division 2 final

The Wexford Datapac Ladies were defeated by Dublin on
Saturday last in the Division 2 League final in Thurles,
1-13 to 1-6. Dublin began the game with a strong wind
at their backs but Wexford stayed firmly in touch with
the Dublin girls, being only 2 points behind with 6 minutes
remaining in the first half. However, Dublin punished
Wexford’s lapse of concentration in these last few minutes,
adding 5 more points to their tally.

This late surge by Dublin left Wexford trailing by 7 points
at the interval. Wexford threw caution to the wind in
the second half and continued to battle to the final whistle.
Dublin got a late scare by the Wexford ladies, with about
ten minutes remaining, Caroline Murphy scored a goal for
the Wexford girls, leaving just four points between the
teams. Wexford had two further efforts at goal saved and
after an anxious few minutes, with Wexford on the attack,
Dublin on the counter attack finished the game by scoring
a goal in the dying seconds of the game. Wexford battled
hard against this strong Dublin side and continued to
threaten their lead right up to the very end but the significant
lead they had built up in the first half was just too
hard to claw back.

Wexford will now take a two-week break and then resume
training for the all-ireland group stages, where they
are accompanied by Westmeath, Louth, Leitrim and Limerick,
where they will hope to continue the success they have
already achieved in the Leinster championship.
