Fermanagh Ladies Football Round 2

Kinwaley 5-09 Erne Gaels 0-05

Due to the county on duty at the weekend there was only one fixture
played between Kinawley and Erne Gaels. This game played in Kinawley
fields was a lot closer then the score line suggest but the end
result, a convincing performances from the girls in Blue and white.
Kinawley opened the played with a quick point from play by full-forward
Gemma Scallon, with the same player adding another point in as
many minutes before the Belleek girls got settled with a well
taken point from the sharp boot of Clare Gallagher. With Kinawley’s
Alishing McCaughey and Clare Gallagher exchanging point for point
the game was proving a fight in all areas of the field. Kinawley
forward line were having to fight for all their score and Janet
McManus registered her first point of the game to leave the score
board reading 0-04 to 0-02 in favor of Kinawley. Belleeks defence
was holding strong and their work rate mid-way through the 1st
half was vital ensuring they only trailed by 2 points, however
a well worked passage of play seen Alishing McCaughey finish the
ball to the Belleek net.

Belleek continued to work hard around the mid of the field with
great support play coming from the Gallaghers, Claire and Rachel
and they were rewarded with two point. With minutes remaining
it was Kinawley’s Gemma Scallon who had the last say with a fine
point from play, to leave the half time score reading 1-05 to
0-04 in favor of the home side. With all to play for in the second
half it was Kinawley who dominated from the start through a point
from Claire Maguire, and Janet McManus proving her worth netting
two goal. Kinawley now in the driving sit introduced a number
of young players debuting at senior level namely Zoe Leonard and
Danielle Maguire with the later only on the field two minutes
when she made her mark will a well taken goal, instant impact.
Kinawley now in total control and Belleek only able to register
one solitary point the game finished with Gemma Scallon and Alishing
McCaughey scoring a point a piece from play before Scallon again
showed her free taken ability through two points right at the
end of 60 minutes. The final score did not reflect the tough encounter
which took place, with both team showing well in phases and a
lot will have been learnt from this outing. The game was played
in great sporting fashion and was well marshaled by the experienced
Jim Feely.
