Festival of Football, Fun and Food at 2012 Tesco HomeGrown All Ireland Club Sevens

 

Over 1,000 Ladies Footballers will partake in this year’s Tesco HomeGrown All Ireland Club Sevens tournament at Naomh Mearnóg and St Sylvester’s GAA Clubs in North Dublin on Saturday 6th October. This year’s tournament will also feature a tented village showcasing some of Ireland’s top sports equipment, GAA fashion accessories and Sports Science.

 

The Exhibition Village will feature GAA Jewellery, NADA, GaGa Baby, O’Neills, Chuchulainn Sports, Kukri, The Sports Surgery Clinic and The Carer’s Association.

 

John Prendergast, Head of Trade Planning and Local Marketing for Tesco, commented, “Year in year out the Ladies Football All Ireland Club Sevens tournament is a fantastic day out. This year the top class football will be augmented by an Exhibitor Village which will feature a host of excellent GAA product and service providers. Credit goes to the LGFA in adding an extra layer of enjoyment to this amazing tournament.”

 

The tournament which is an integral part of the All-Ireland weekend will be played across three grades, Senior, Intermediate and Junior with a Championship and Shield competition at each grade.

 

Helen O’ Rourke, CEO of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association said, “The Tesco Homegrown All Ireland Sevens really is one of the highlights of the football calendar. It is a great day out for all of the participants but it also provides some real top class football. The combination of this fantastic event and the TG4 Ladies All Ireland finals the following day really showcases all that is best about Ladies football.”

 

Last year, Waterford’s Ballymacarbry won the Senior Championship title beating The Banner of Clare in the final. In the Intermediate Championship final Kilkerrin/Clonberne emerged victorious in an all Galway affair defeating Miltown. The Junior Championship title was secured by Thomas Davis of Dublin as they overcame Claregalway of Dublin.

 

The tournament starts at 10.00am at Naomh Mearnog/Sylvesters with the Championship finals expected to commence at 5.00pm across all grades.
