Foxrock-Cabinteely win Dublin U-16 title

Cabinteely U16 Champions

afternoon 2.p.m and the most important game for
U16 county football was to take place. After two
thrilling semi-finals it was Foxrock Cabinteely
V’s Ballyboden St. Endas who were lining out for
their chance of the championship title.

The venue was Ballyboden and conditions were perfect
for a great days football. The first half of the
game was an intense display of football with little
more than 2 points separating the teams at any time.
Foxrock Cabinteely put over a succession of points
with Amy Connelly, Blathnaid Callan and Amy Ring
on form, these were followed by two superb goals
from Sinead Loughran putting Foxrock Cabinteely
up by 2 points at half time.

Ballyboden got off to a quick start in the second
half adding another 1-1 to their score within the
first ten minutes. Foxrock Cabinteely had to dig
deep and with key players such as Kirste McArdle,
Sinead Goldrick and Elaine Bolger (captain) on the
back line Ballyboden scored only once more the rest
of the game. 10 minutes to go and Foxrock Cabinteely
were awarded a penalty due to a foul on Amy Ring
in the small square. Ciara Murphy stood up to the
challenge and brought Foxrock Cabinteely back into
the game with an unstoppable shot on goal. Goals
were the flavour of the day with Amy Ring and Ciara
O’Riordan soon after beating the Ballyboden goalie
again and again.

The final score was 5-8 to 1-9 in Foxrock Cabinteely’s
favour. It was an immense game of football which
showed great skill, speed and passion on both sides.

Although all players gave it their all, Sinead Goldrick
(Foxrock Cabinteely) was the player of the match
on the day. Sinead was seen on every inch of the
pitch throughout the game and both team members
and mentors agreed she had an outstanding day.

Seamus McKenna presented the cup to Elaine Bolger
where she thanked Ballyboden for a great game and
the took the cup home to Kilboggot park.
