Foxrock/Cabinteely Overcome Carlow Champions

Foxrock/Cabinteely 9-15 O’ Hanrahans 3-3 Foxrock/Cabinteely
travelled to Tinryland last night and overcame a stout
and determined test from the Carlow Champions, O Hanrahans
in the preliminary round of the Leinster Junior Championship.
The match was played under lights in perfect conditions.
The Dublin representatives got off to a whirlwind start
with 3 early goals from Ciara Murphy (2) and Amy Ring
before Ann-Marie Murphy pointed from a long range free.
O Hanrahans responded immediately working the ball from
their defence with excellent team work to finish to the
net. Sinead Murphy and Amy Ring added further goals halfway
through the 1st half to extend the Foxrock/Cabinteely
lead.

7 unanswered points from Amy Connolly, Ciara Murphy(2),
Ann-Marie Murphy(2), Louise Stafford and Amy Ring opened
a formidable lead for the Dubliners. Further scores from
Ciara Murphy and Amy Ring saw both players complete a
hat-trick of goals each before half time. O Hanrahans
continued to attack and sustained pressure resulted in
2 well taken points. The second half was a much closer
affair with the Carlow girls throwing everything into
attack to rescue the game. From a 21 yard free O Hanrahans
drilled high and hard into the Foxrock/Cabinteely net
giving hope of a comeback. However, Caroline Callan and
Finuala Hogan formed a resolute rearguard. Doireann O
Daly worked tirelessly throughout. Elaine Bolger was given
a free role, starting many attacks as O Hanrahans played
with an extra defender.

Blanaid Callan, Kirsty Mc Ardle and Sarah Brophy allowed
little through on Goalie Sinead Murphy. Sinead Goldrick
was her industrious self linking well with Marla Candon

Quarter Final in Granville Rd at 3.30pm this Sunday.
