Foxrock/Cabinteely Reach Leinster Final after Thrilling encounter Foxrock/Cabinteely 3-13 Edenderry 2-8 Foxrock/Cabinteely came through an epic encounter with the Offaly Champions yesterday with 8 points to spare in a game that had all that is good in Ladies Gaelic football. The Dublin ladies were flattered by the scoreline as the match was much closer than the final score suggested. Both teams were evenly matched and the outcome of the game was in doubt right up to the final minutes. Foxrock/Cabinteely opened with early points from Anne-Marie Murphy and Amy Connolly before a Connolly goal opened settled the Dublin girls. Edenderry’s goalie Niamh Kavanagh was in fine form bringing off a number of saves and finding her players with long well-directed kick-outs. Edenderry clawed their way back into the game with scores from Jane Fitzpatrick and Riona Byrne. As the game progressed Sinead Taylor became more prominent picking off 2 points to narrow the margin. Louise Stafford finished some excellent teamplay with a point for Foxrock/Cabinteely before Anne-Marie Murphy started a 5 minute blitz that saw her score 1-2 without reply. A further point from Amy Connolly saw the Dublin Champions go into the break with a 7 point lead. On the resumption Edenderry had a 10 minute purple patch where they hit 2-1 to draw level. Young player of the year nominee Sinead Taylor capitalised on a steady supply of ball from her team mates and showed exactly why she is so highly rated. Her pace and ball-carrying ability troubled the Dublin defence repeatedly. Points from Sinead Goldrick, Ciara Murphy and Anne-Marie Murphy(2) opened a 4 point lead for Foxrock/Cabinteely before Anne-Marie Murphy finished to the net after sustained pressure from Sinead Murphy and Amy Ring. Marla Candon fresh from her Underdogs exploits played a Captains part setting up her colleagues for scoring chances throughout. Sarah Brophy and Blanaid Callan got to grips with the Edenderry threat in the second half. A point from Amy Connolly saw Foxrock/Cabinteely close out the game for an 8 point victory that sees this young Club reach the Leinster Final at the first attempt. The Leinster final will take place on Sunday 28th Oct between An Tochar (Wicklow) and Foxrock/Cabinteely(Dublin) with the venue to be confirmed.
