Gaelic4Girls blitz held in Pearse Stadium, Galway

The weather did nothing to dampen the spirits of all the players,
coaches, parents and guests on Tuesday evening who attended
the Gaelic4Girls Blitz evening in Pearse Stadium Galway. Up
to 60 girls aged between 9 and 13 yrs participated in the programme
in three areas in Galway city; Westside, Ballybane and Ballyinfoyle.
Funding for this programme was received through the Dormant
Accounts Funding with Galway City Council. City Mayor Tom Costello,
Cllr Donal Lyons, Geraldine Giles; President Cumann Peil Gael
na mBan, Mary Quinn; President Cumann Peil Connacht na mBan
were among the guests that attended the blitz. Jason Craughwell;
Co-ordinator of Galway city Sports Partnership was also in attendance.
All participants were beginners to Ladies Gaelic Football and
will now continue to play with their respective clubs in the
area. Great credit must go the coaches who were involved in
this programme throughout the six week period. While the girls
did not get an opportunity to play on the hallowed ground of
Pearse stadium on this occasion it is hoped and expected that
soon they will e representing their clubs and county on the
big stage.
