Galway 2-10 Meath 0-15 GALWAY overturned a three point half time deficit to overcome Meath in a thrilling TG4 All-Ireland Ladies SFC quarter-final replay at Breffni Park Cavan on Saturday. . Unlike the drawn game, Meath burst out of the blocks early on and got off to a blistering start. They led 0-7 to 0-3 after 18 minutes helped by five points from Gillian Bennett. Galway responded through Player of the Match Gillian Joyce, who floated over a point before Edel Concannon fired home their opening goal to draw level seven minutes from the break. Meath finished the half with three unanswered points in the final five minutes to lead at the interval, 0-10 to 1-4. Galway missed an injury time penalty when Niamh Fahey’s shot was saved by Irene Munnelly. Meath extended their lead with a Fiona Mahon point before Gillian Joyce fired in Galway’s second goal four minutes after the restart. Bennett hit over her only point from play soon after to open a two point advantage. However, Galway replied by hitting three unanswered points to lead for the first time as the game entered the final quarter. Meath hit back with a brace of points from Jackie Shiels to retake the lead but Galways experience told and they finished strongly to advance to yet another All-Ireland semi-final.
