Galway advance to face Cork in Aisling McGing Final

GALWAY   5-10     LAOIS  2-12

Tracy Leonard and Shauna Jackson were the stars of the show as the Galway U 21 Ladies defeated Laois in the blistering heat of St Brendan’s Pk, Birr on Sunday last. The Galway girls were geared up for this game knowing that Laois had easily defeated Dublin in their previous game.  Both teams traded points for the first 20 minutes of the half but Galway got 2 goals in the 22nd and 25th minute to take a 2-5  to 0-6 lead at half time.

Galway made one change at half time bringing on Ciara Newell for Lisa O’Neill but it was Laois that started the stronger and in their 1st attack of the half they scored their first goal. Their no 13 Mo Nerney narrowed the gap further by kicking a point in the 5th min, however  Tracy Leonard  goaled in the 10th min to give Galway some breathing space. Laois hit back with a goal of their own in the 12th min by Aisling  Kehoe   but Galway’s  Shauna Jackson scored a goal in the 15th min to keep Galway ahead.

Another goal was added by Galway and although Laois rallied late on they could not break down the Galway defence and the girls from the west held on for a fantastic win.  F-T Score  Galway  5-10   Laois 2-12.

They now play Cork in the final next weekend, venue and time to be  confirmed.
