Galway B 0-13 Dublin B 0-5

Galway have advanced to the final of the Suzuki Ladies National
League B competetion thanks to this 8 point defeat of Dublin at
Castledaly last Sunday afternoon.

The scoreline in a game played at the rain sodden Westmeath venue
suggests a comfortable win for the Tribeswomen. While it was ultimately,
it would have been so different had the Dublin forwards turned
more of their many first half chances into the valuable commodity
of scores. All in all they registered 7 first half wides, many
of them from good scoring positions.

The crowd which included Galways All Ireland winning captain
of 2004 Annette Clarke, had to wait 9 mins for the opening score
which came off the boot of Natasha Barnwell for the Dubs. That
remarkably was to be their only score of the half as Galway thanks
to a greater economical use of their limited possession racked
up a 4 point half time lead, 0-5 to 0-1.

Wing forward Brid Connolly drew the sides level on 13 mins before
Rachel King and Niamh Lohan sandwiched between a brace of Barbara
Hannon points firmly swung the game the way of the Galway ladies.
One of seven wides registered to Dublin came on the 1/4 hour mark
when Anglea Griffins low ground shot aimed for the bottom corner
of Galway keeper Fiona Gilmores net narrowly missed its target.

Galways lead within 7 mins of the restart had increased to 6
points as Brid Connolly brought her personal tally at that stage
to 3. Dublins right corner forward Anglela Gallagher did reduce
the arrears with her teams first second half score. Galway every
time they moved forward looked like scoring and by the time the
end of the hour had been signalled by referee Mary Foy from Monaghan
they had added 8 points to their half time tally.

Brid Connolly, Niamh Lohan and Barbara Hannon were all to the
fore. Dublin did have the ball in the net through Ballyboden St
Endas player Sarah Denvir on 42 which was ruled out for a square
ball while 11 mins later Kathleen Murphy when going for a goal
could not keep her shot down and had to be satisfied with a point.
To cap their miserable afternoon Denise Mc Kenna was yellow carded
with 15 mins to go for a challenge on Galway midfielder Emma Curley.

Galway maintain their hoodoo over Dublin now having beaten them
in consecutive Div 1 quarter finals in 2004 and 2005 as well of
course as the All Ireland Semi Final last September and last but
not least you add last Sundays win to the mix as well all be it
not quite at the same level as the previous defeats

Scorers: Galway B. Connolly 0-5, B.Hannon 0-4, N. Lohan 0-3 R
King 0-1,

Dublin N.Barnwell A.Griffin A. Gallagher K.Murphy T Molohan 0-1
