Galway Football Round Up.

The large crowd of people who attended the All Ireland Ladies Under 16 Final on Saturday in Longford were treated to a feast of some of the finest football this year to date. Cavan and Galway did battle for the trophy and the score line of Galway 3 – 13 Cavan 1 – 11 does not reflect the game as Galway got their 3 goals in the last seven or eight minutes of the game. The Galway team was sponsored by M.G.Steel Products, Tuam and captained by Niamh Fahy of Killannin sister of County Senior players Gary and Richie, picture shows Niamh holding Gary’s baby son and the All Ireland Cup. The Joyce brothers, Padraic & Tommy’s, sister Cora was right half forward on this team.

Celebrations went on into the early hours of Sunday morning and indeed recommenced on Sunday evening as this under 16 team proudly presented their All Ireland trophy to their various clubs from Ballygar to Clonbur and from Rosmuc to Dunmore. On Tuesday evening our under 12 team defeated Mayo by a single point 1-6 to 1 – 5 in the Connacht Final. Congratulations and well done to them. Our minor team however lost their Connacht crown to Mayo on that same evening. Next wekend sees the County in action again as our Senior team take on Tyrone in the TG4 Quarter Final in Longford at 1.45 on Saturday in Longford and hopefully advance to the Semi – Final stages. Good luck to our team manager P.J. Fahy and our sponsor J.F.C.
