Galway hang on against a determined Laois challenge

Tribeswomen hang on to reach semi-finals

Galway 1-8 Laois 1-6

Galway hung on against a determined Laois
challenge for their first TG4 All-Ireland Women’s
SFC final appearance after resisting a late Laois
rally in this quarter-final clash at Longford,
on Saturday, 28th August.

Boosted by an early Lisa Cohill goal the Connacht
champions led 1-5 to 1-2 at the break, but a goal
from midfielder Kay O’Reilly put Laois back in
contention. Points from Aileen and Ciara O’Loughlin
pared the deficit back to the minimum within ten
minutes of the restart.

Galway were left hanging on after Niamh Duggan
sent a penalty wide but retained their composure
to book a third meeting with provincial rivals
Mayo, whom they have beaten twice already during
their Connacht campaign.
