WESTMEATH 1-3 GALWAY 1-5 Kinnegad on Sunday last was not a place for the faint-hearted as this 5th round of the Tesco Home Grown N F L proved to be a very tough affair. On a cold, blustery day scores were very hard to come by and it was 10 mins into the half before the home team got the the first point although it was quickly followed by a point by No 13 Ger Conneally for Galway. Edel Concannon kicked Galway into the lead with a free in the 22nd min but in the last 2 mins of the half Westmeath scored a goal and a point. H-T score W/meath 1-2 Galway 0-02 First half sub Emma Curley was begining to boss the game in midfield and Galway started the second half much stronger and put the Westmeath back line under pressure. Tracey Leonard had a penalty saved in the 3rd min and Edel Concannon had 2 goal bound shots go narrowly wide and although she fisted the ball to the Westmeath net the goal was ruled out for square ball . Westmeath were now down to 14 players and by the 24th min Galway had leveled up the scores through Roisin Leonard and Edel Concannon. A 2nd Westmeath player was sin-binned in the 23rd min and although temporarily down to 13 players, they took the lead in the 27th min. As the clock went into injury time it looked like the home team would hold out for a win but 1 high ball from Roisin Leonard was misjudged by the Westmeath goalie and the ball ended up in the back of the net.
