Tribeswomen
make two changes for All-Ireland Final by Cliona
Foley

Galway
have made two personnel changes for Sunday’s
All-Ireland Ladies football final – the Tribeswomen’s
first senior decider in 29 years. There are
also a wave of positional switches for PJ
Fahy’s side, who claimed their first Connacht
title this season. Dunmore’s Geraldine Conneally,
who scored 1-0 in Galway’s 3-10 to 3-9 semi-final
win over champions Mayo, starts at right full
forward in place of Gillian Joyce, in a re-jigged
attack.

Fiona Wynne also loses out to Marie O’Connell,
with the St Mary’s defender fit again following
her facial injury, which required 20 stitches,
sustained in the drawn semi-final clash against
Mayo in Portlaoise. Salthill’s Anne-Marie
McDonagh, who replaced O’Connell at Dr Hyde
Park ten days ago, takes her position at left-corner
back. 23-year-old trainee Garda Annette Clarke
skippers the side in search of the county’s
first ever Brendan Martin Cup. “All the games
from the quarter-finals on are tight and Sunday
will be no different,” said Clarke. “We have
not been to Croke Park since 2002 and while
we will enjoy the occasion – we are there
to win.”
