Heywood beat St Josephs in Leinster schools

Heywood continued their great form with another convincing
win over ST. Josephs Secondary school. Heywood got a great
start with a super goal from midfielder Jessie Curley. They
continued to apply the pressure with two goals from centre
forward Lisa Dunne and points from Natasha Cuddy, Martha
Kirwan(0-2) and Jessie Curley.

Good defending from Heywood kept ST. Josephs’ scoring to
a minimum. The introduction of Leanne Hanrohan for the injured
Mary Reilly saw Heywood further extend their lead with goals
from Martha Kirwan and Aoife Mc Wey.

ST. Josephs replied well with goals from Fiona Leavy and
Karen Mc Dermott,with Niamh Malone(0-2), Laura Kenny and
Aisling Flanagan adding points. Good defencive work from
full-back Niamh Fitzpatrick and captain Aoife Donoghue ensured
that the ST. Josephs attack didn’t develop any further.
Excellent work by attacking half backs Lynn and Amy O’ Callaghan
set up more scores for Lisa Dunne (0-2), Nóirín Kirwan and
Natasha Cuddy. Heywood held a convincing lead at half-time
with three players making way for the introduction of substitutes.
Laura Donoghue for Aoife Mc Wey,Sibhán Walsh for Ciara Moran
and Eimear Barry for Natasha Cuddy. Heywood set up good
attacking moments before a period of domination by ST. Josephs.

Heywood never gave up trying with good saves from goalie
Orla Dwyer and Grace O’Shaughenssy combining with Siobhán
Walsh to clear constant attacks. ST. Josephs scores in this
half came from the skilful Fiona Leavy, Aisling Doyle, joanne
Harney and substitute Siobhan Loran.The winners showed great
heart during this period of domination to prevent a come
back.
