Heywood CS reach Leinster Semi Final

Heywood
CS reach Leinster Semi Final

Leinster
Senior A Quarter final Heywood CS. (Laois) 5.4 Loreto
Wexford 4.05

After a breath taking encounter, Heywood Community School
emerged as deserving winners to march into the Leinster
semi final after a tough match against Loreto Wexford.

Siobhan Fennely got Heywood off to a fine start with a
fisted goal following a Noirin Kirwan free. Natasha Cuddy
increased the margin after some intelligent interlinking
play, before Loreto began to apply the pressure from Margaret
D’Arcy. The strong centre forward was involved in her
teams first two scores and despite being well marshalled
by Heywood’s commanding centre back Amy O Callaghan, D’Arcy
managed to slip in a pass for her team’s first goal. The
combined efforts of Heywood’s Orla Dwyer and the back
division, which now included the versatile Aoife Mc Wey
were stunning, stopping certain goals time and again.

Super sub Sarah Mc Evoy showed her metal when she calmly
walked a soccer style goal around Loreto’s net minder.
And that was soon followed with a spectacular goal from
Noirin Kirwan. Collecting at midfield she split the unsuspecting
Loreto defence apart, running right through and slotting
home to leave the score at the break Loreto 2.2 Heywood
3.1. Not wasting any time after the throw in, Natasha
Cuddy stuck the ball in the net to give Heywood the confidence
they needed to take the game. Noirin Kirwan and Aoife
Mc Wey pointed for Heywood before Loreto surfaced again
with two goals to pull them back into contention. Replicating
the process again, Siobhan Fennely bagged a fantastic
goal from an impossible angle to keep the Laois team in
front. Loreto pressed forward again with two more points
but it was Heywood’s Eimear Mc Wey and Noirin Kirwan who
had the last say allowing their team to hang on and claim
a place in the semi final. Heywood’s goalie Orla Dwyer
was in fantastic form, saving Heywood on numerous occasions.

The full back line of Aisling Mc Guire, Siobhan Walsh
and Sarah Moran were strong under pressure getting in
the vital blocks that were needed. The half back line
of Aine Malone, Amy O Callaghan and Aoife Mc Wey defended
to the highest standard showing their experience well.
Lynn O Callaghan and Captain Aine Dooley controlled matters
at midfield while the pick of a high class forward line
were senior county star Noirin Kirwan and Natasha Cuddy
and they got fantastic support from Eimear and Aoife Mc
Wey and Siobhan Fenelly.
