HomeGrown Talent gathers ahead of All Ireland Club Finals

Tesco extend LGFA Club Championships sponsorship

Finalists in this year’s Tesco HomeGrown All Ireland Club Championships gathered in Croke Park ahead of next weekend’s finals to celebrate Tesco HomeGrown’s extension of their sponsorship of the All Ireland Club Championships.

Tesco’s sponsorship of the All Ireland Club Championships began in 2009 and the latest deal will extend their partnership with the LGFA until 2014.  The Tesco HomeGrown Ladies Football sponsorship portfolio now includes the All Ireland Post Primary competitions, the All Ireland Club Sevens, the Club Person of the Year Award, the Dublin Club Championships and the Cork Club Championships.

This year’s senior All Ireland Club final is a repeat of the 2006 decider when Donaghmoyne of Monaghan got the better of Mayo’s Carnacon.  Donaghmoyne claimed their second senior title in 2009 whereas Carnacon have won the senior crown three times since in 2007, 2008 and last year beating Dublin champions Na Fianna.

Defending champions Carnacon advanced to the final after a hard fought 0-14 to 0-10 victory over Munster champions Inch Rovers.  On the other side of the draw Donaghmoyne put in an impressive display as they defeated Shelmaliers of Wexford by 1-21 to 0-7.  Deferred coverage of the senior final will be aired on TG4.

Cahir (Tipperary) will face Parnells (London) in the Intermediate final after Parnells overcame Kilkerrin-Clonberne (Galway) in a replay at the weekend.  The junior final will see Boherbue of Cork take on Dublin’s Thomas Davis.  Neither club has reached an All Ireland club final before so new names will be etched on the junior and intermediate trophies this year.

John Prendergast, Head of Trade Planning & Local Marketing with Tesco Ireland, commented, “We are delighted to extend our sponsorship of this great club competition.  Through our association with Ladies Football Tesco are investing in the promotion of female participation in sport in communities all around the country.  The HomeGrown brand is a great fit for our ladies football sponsorships as it too supports and celebrates local people and their contribution to local communities.”

Helen O’Rourke, CEO of the Cumann Peil Gael na mBán, commented, “The LGFA are delighted that TESCO have chosen to extend their sponsorship of our club competitions. They have proven to be ideal partners during the term of the current agreement and we look forward to continuing to work with them as we grow and develop our sport nationally. The TESCO Homegrown All Ireland Club Championships have produced some fantastic football already this year and I am sure that the six teams in our finals will provide the perfect footballing finish to 2012“
