Inaugural Gaelic4Mothers&Others event to take place in Rennes, France

The Club of Ar Gwazi Gouez, a prominent GAA Club in Rennes, is excited to announce an upcoming Gaelic4Mothers&Others event, to be held on April 6th, 2024.

Spearheaded by Anna Marie O’Rourke and Sinead Riordan, two passionate advocates for Gaelic Games, this event promises to celebrate community, inclusivity, and the spirit of Gaelic Games.

Supported by the LGFA, Rennes City Council, Gaelic Games Europe, the World GAA Global Development Fund Grant, and the French Federation for Gaelic Sports, this event marks a significant milestone in the promotion of Gaelic Games in France.

“I am thrilled to bring together Gaelic4Mothers&Others teams from Ireland to Rennes for this groundbreaking event,” said Anna Marie O’Rourke, a native of Coolkenno, County Wicklow, and the current Coaching Officer for Gaelic Games Europe. “Our aim is to celebrate culture, camaraderie, and the essence of Gaelic games, while also highlighting the contributions of volunteers within our club.”

“I’ve known Sinead, a native of Glenbeigh, Co Kerry, for twenty years as she played in the first Rennes Ladies Team as an Erasmus student. We have remained close friends since those early days, and our friendship is a beautiful story too, added O’Rourke. “She is central to the story as she is coordinating the teams from Ireland.”

The event will kick off with a warm welcome on Friday night at the Fox and Friends Pub, courtesy of owner Eoghan, a proud Galway native who is enthusiastic about supporting the event.

On Saturday, April 6th, the festivities will commence with a coaching session for children, followed by a fun warm-up for the participating teams. The focus of the day will be on fostering friendship and inclusivity, with non-competitive games aimed at promoting the ethos of Gaelic4Mothers&Others which emphasises participation, fun, and community engagement over winning. Additionally, a Rennes Ladies gala match will take place, with invitations extended to other local women’s sports clubs to discover Ladies’ Gaelic Football.

Five G4MO teams from Ireland will be in attendance – Realt na nGleannta from Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane Co. Kerry, Killarney Legion Co. Kerry, Coolkenno Co. Wicklow, Kickham’s GAC Creggan Co. Antrim, and St. Patrick’s Ballyoughter Co. Wexford, totalling 60+ participants.

“We are excited to host this historic event, which represents the vibrant spirit of Gaelic games and the enduring bonds of community,” added O’Rourke. “We invite everyone to join us for a day filled with friendship, craic, and cultural exchanges.”
