Irish Shoppers Help Local Ladies Gaelic Football Clubs Score Prizes from Lidl

Retailer to Kit Out Local Clubs and Share €200,000 Pot with 181 LGFA Clubs Across the Country

Lidl Ireland has announced the winners of its club fundraising initiative that took place earlier this year, with €102,000 in cash funding and 230 sets of team jerseys being awarded to local Ladies Gaelic Football clubs across the country. Dublin’s Castleknock, Donegal’s Bun Dobhráin, Galway’s Tuam Cortoon and Kerry’s Inbhear Scéine Gaels LGFA Clubs were awarded a top prize of €20,000 each from the retailer for collecting the most stamp cards in their respective provinces as part of the initiative which called on communities to support their clubs by scanning their Lidl Plus app at the checkout in their local Lidl. The innovative initiative has now seen more than 383 LGFA clubs benefit from new jerseys and up to €20,000 in funding over the last 2 years with more than €575,000 invested in local clubs altogether.

The initiative called on communities to get behind their local club by scanning their Lidl Plus app to receive a digital stamp on their stamp card. Once six stamps were collected, users could submit their completed stamp card via the app and their stamps were then added to their chosen club’s total. Each club that achieved a minimum of 50 completed digital stamp cards was guaranteed a reward.

Commenting on the initiative, Mícheál Naughton, President of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association said: “Once again, Lidl have shown their commitment to our sport at grassroots level by providing local clubs across the country with the opportunity earn fantastic rewards on the Lidl Plus app. So many of our members and their wider communities have been busy shopping and collecting stamps to enable the clubs to be successful in the scheme. It’s another great boost for the association following on from the announcement of a 4-year extension of the partnership which will see Lidl continue as the LGFA’s Official Retail Partner and we very much appreciate their continued #SeriousSupport. Well done to all of the clubs who participated in the campaign and who will now enjoy their well-earned rewards.

Aoife Clarke, Head of Communications & CSR at Lidl Ireland said: “We are delighted to award more than 360 local LGFA clubs with this well-deserved funding through this initiative. Watching local communities across the country support and really get behind their clubs to raise very necessary funds has been incredible! It has really demonstrated the country’s dedication to supporting their local ladies club from a grassroots level and the value placed on raising awareness of the importance of women and girls in sport. It is this kind of dedication that will encourage girls to get involved, and to stay involved, in sport.

In February, Lidl and Ladies Gaelic Football announced a four-year contract extension to the partnership that will mark a decade of #SeriousSupport, representing an investment of €10 million by the retailer throughout the 10-year partnership. The extension will take the partnership through to the conclusion of the 2025 season.
