Joint Funding Seminar to Take Place this Weekend

The Ladies Gaelic Football Association and the Camogie Association, in co-operation with the Women’s Gaelic Players Association will host the first education seminars before distribution of the government funding announced last June commences.

Players, managers and administrators will attend seminars this weekend ahead of the distribution of €500,000 per year in 2017 and 2018 through the Government Grant Scheme announced last June. This funding will support intercounty Camogie and Ladies Football panels and players in their preparation off the pitch throughout the year.

Two seminars will be jointly held by the Camogie Association, Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) and the Women’s Gaelic Players Association (WGPA) in the coming days to inform all parties of the process of distributing this funding.

The workshops which take place in Limerick and Dublin will be attended by County Board Chairpersons/Secretaries, Team Managers and Player Representatives across both Camogie and Ladies Football and will provide information and guidance on how to avail of the funding available to intercounty teams.

This follows the announcement in June 2016 by the Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan TD, of a two-year agreement, commencing in 2017, to provide support for intercounty Camogie and Ladies Football players.  This process will provide funding of €500,000 in 2017 and 2018, through Sport Ireland, to support programmes included in a joint proposal by the Camogie Association, the LGFA and the WGPA.

The financial support is aimed towards programmes such as injury prevention and medical cover; maximising player and team performance, and access to training facilities.
