Kerry and Waterford progress to Munster Finals

Kerry and Waterford join Cork and Tipperary in Munster Finals

Kerry and Waterford both secured their Munster final places with deserved wins over Clare and Limerick. Kerry now go head to head with neighbours, Cork, whom they have already beaten in Round 1 but they have not been successful over Cork in a final.

Waterford set up a rematch of last year’s provincial final against Tipperary, in what is sure to be a real tight affair.

Both finals take place in Castletownroche with the Intermediate Final throwing in at 2pm with the Senior decider at 3.45pm

Senior TG4 Round 3

Kerry 8-25 Clare 1-10

6th July 2013

Venue: Scartaglin

Kerry booked their place in the Munster final with a clinical hours work in Scartaglin. Ahead 3-2 to 1-1 after ten minutes with the Kerry goals coming from Mags O’Donoghue and two from Laura Rogers. Niamh O’Dea raising the Clare green flag. Kerry just possessed too much for a Clare side that were honest in their effort but far too naive for a Kerry side that operated at a different level. Kerry added further first half goals from Patrice Dennehy and Louise Galvin and were ahead at the break 5-11 to 1-3

The second half saw no let up but Kerry will be concerned that they ran up 11 wides. Clare picked away on limited possession and through Ailish Considine, her sister Eimear and Niamh O’Dea they built a steady scoreboard. However this was Kerry at a different class and Louise Ni Mhuirtceartaigh, Deirdre Corridan and Mags O’Donoghue all added to Kerry’s goal total to see the home team run out 36 point winners at the full time whistle.

Intermediate Championship

Round 3

7th July 2013

Waterford 3-12 Limerick 2-6

Venue: Fraher Field

Waterford called on their greater experience and fitness to overcome a stiff Limerick challenge to reach the Munster Final. Limerick were the front runners for long periods of the first half and when Claire O’Riordan converted a 28th minute penalty they were in a strong position 1-4 to 0-2 ahead. However Waterford with three quick fire points reduced the margin to just 2 at the break. Limerick continued to put up resistance early in the second half but when Linda Wall goaled on the 38th minute Waterford were ahead and it seemed to take the wind out of the Limerick sails. Further goals from Aileen Wall and Shauna Dunphy put daylight between them. Claire O’Riordan enhanced her inter county career with another Limerick goal. Her 3rd in the championship but it only served to make the scoreboard look better.
