Kerry Notes

Congratulations to Miltown/Listry who won the first title of the year in the Kerry LGFA calendar. They defeated Corca Dhuibhne on Friday evening in Keel to secure the Educate.ie U14 Division 2 title. Despite the heavy rain that fell earlier in the day Keel GAA pitch was in superb condition which contributed to a great game of football. The first half was extremely tight with both sides level at half time. But whatever the Miltown/Listry management said to their team worked wonders as they came alive in the second half & unfortunately the West Kerry side could not contain them. Final score Miltown/Listry 2-14 Corca Dhuibhne 2-06 with the winning side’s goals coming from Meadhbh Rochford & Louise O’Dowd. Ciara Murphy was proud to accept the title from Kerry Ladies Chairperson Pat Hartnett.

The Educate.ie U14 Division 3 final will take place on Sunday 15th June between Cromane & Scartaglin. Cromane were table toppers & were extremely strong in the league phase, but Scartaglen have gathered great momentum & had a good semi final against Beale. It will be a great clash between the teams.

Best of luck to the Kerry U14 team as they face Cavan in the All Ireland A Semi Final on Saturday in Templemore at 2 pm. The team ran a good campaign in the Munster’s, defeating Cork in the Munster Final. Cavan however will come into the game on a good run of form having only played their final where they defeated Down 2 weeks, while Kerry have had a 5 week break. Kerry again will be looking for their midfield pairing of Labhaoise Walmsley & Sophie Lynch to win vital possession as they did against Cork to supply the forward line, who can all score at will.

Congratulations to Cait Lynch (Castleisland Desmonds) & Denise Hallissey (Inbhear Sceine Gaels) who were named in the Tesco HomeGrown National Football League Division 1 Team of the League. Both players who play in the half back line were rock solid throughout the campaign. Cork & Dublin as finalists dominated the selection with 4 each, Mayo also with 2 while Laois, Monaghan & Tyrone make up the rest.  (team of the league pictured included – Cait Lynch Front Row 3rd in from right, Denise Hallissey Back Row 1st from right)

Phase 2 of the U12 Development Squad programme commenced with over 120 girls across all 4 centres returning. Training schedule this week is as follows: Tralee/West Kerry – Na Gaeil 9.45 – 11.30; North Kerry/Sliabh Luachra – Mountcoal 10.30-12.00; East Kerry/Killarney – Legion GAA 12-1.30; South/Mid Kerry – St Mary’s Caherciveen 10-11.30.

Also as part of our continuing efforts in development, the U17 Development Squad will commence on Saturday 14th June in Mounthawk Tralee 10.30 am. This is for players born in 1997/1998 only. A team representing Kerry will be attending a blitz in August. All details on the website & social media outlets.

Well done to the Kerry U21 team who finished off their campaign with a hard fought win over a talented Clare team in Ballylongford recently. Full time score was Kerry 4-12 Clare 2-12 with Kerry having to battle hard for the win especially in the second half as Clare threw everything at Kerry. Kerry goals coming from Eilis O’Connor, Klara O’Sullivan, Johanna O’Callaghan & Katelyn O’Sullivan. Despite the win, Cork progressed to the semi final as top of the group.

Best of luck to the North Kerry Ladies Football Board who host their annual U10 Blitz on Sunday 15th June in Abbeydorney. It is now in its 5th year & approx 250 girls will get the opportunity to play football & make friends in a totally non competitive environment where no scores are kept & all participants are rewarded with medals & refreshments.
