Kildare Ladies Football News

The well laid plans to stage the Under 15 Autumn League Finals on 2 pitches at a single venue came unstuck for Kildare Ladies Football last Saturday morning when the water logged Ellistown pitches were closed a mad scramble to find alternatives found 3 venues in a very short time. St Laurence’s took 2 of the games and the pitch there was well nigh perfect while the same position obtained in Kilcullen for the Division 1 Final. Your scribe, having attended both games in Old Grange, made the sort dash to Kilcullen and saw most of the exciting game there which was another goal fest. The Division 3 Final was taken in by Carbury, another of the ever willing Clubs, ever willing to facilitate Ladies Football, and Na Fianna were the surprise winners over Maynooth by 4 points 3 – 9 to 4 – 2. Unfortunately the Div 4 Final between Castledermot and Moorefield fell between the cracks but is (has) being played on Tuesday night, Nov 2nd, in Castlemitchell.

The 5 Under 13 Finals listed for Eire Óg / Corrachoill on Sunday also fell foul of the inclement weather on Friday and especially Saturday night and will have to be rescheduled.

Next Sunday marks the start of the Minor Championship. Now it might seem late in the year to be starting but in Ladies Football practically every Minor player and indeed many younger again also play with their Clubs Adult teams so its not that unusual. The Championship continues every Sunday concluding on December 5th, in plenty of time to so the Christmas shopping. There’s a strong rumour around that the 2011 Minor Championship will be played before the Senior Leagues get under way at the end of March/ beginning of April so most of those participating for the next 5 weeks wont have very long to wait for the next instalment.

A concluding note to mark a Referee’s appointment. Top Kildare whistler had a trip to Manchester at the week-end. Now I don’t think Shaunie Duane would have been able to make Old Trafford but he was refereeing an Ireland Club Championship Quarter Final and there is no record of a Kildare Referee being appointed to a Championship game abroad previously. So well done to Shaunie and just maybe the Kildare Referee’s are really starting to make the big time.
