Kilmacud Crokes All Ireland Ladies Under 14’s Sevens 2013

Kilmacud Crokes Ladies Football held  their 10th All Ireland Ladies U14’s Seven A Side Competition on Saturday 28th September 2013 and what an exciting day of football with 32 teams competing to bring home the cup on this special 10th anniversary !

Games kicked off right on schedule at 10.00am in Coláiste Eoin, Silverpark and Páirc de Burca and Pat Quill, Uachtarán Cumann Peil Gael na mBan was there early to encourage the players and meet the mentors from the many counties competing.  Conditions were perfect and the sun shone throughout the 78 games and the piper led the Cup and Plate finalists on to the pitch in Pairc De Burca,

The Plate Semi-Final saw Tinahely Wicklow, whose manager Paul Tyrell had himself played in a Crokes Football 7s many moons ago, getting the better of Shelmaliers with a 7-09 to 2-03 final score and Dungarvan for the 3rd time in the semi-final take on Kilmoremoy from Mayo with old hands Dungarvan finishing 5-06 to 4-04.

The Plate Final found Dungarvan and Tinahely battling it out with Dungarvan looking for 3 in a row but Tinahely scuppered this to win the Plate Competition with a score line of 6-13 to 4-09 with Billy O’Connell refereeing this final.

Our Cup Semi Final’s found Monasterevan Kildare and Corofin Galway in a tight game with Corofin emerging as victors with a final score of 6-05 to 4-06.  St Vals from Cork and Killucan Westmeath contested for a place in the Cup Final which resulted in St Vals scoring 11-02 to 4-04 and competing against Corofin in the Cup Final.  The Cup Final was a thrilling game with some amazing scores from both teams as they battled it out in a game which could have gone either way right to the blow of the whistle from referee Angela Gallager and a final score of 10-05 to Corofin and 10-03 to St Vals and the Cup has gone West !  Corofin men had also taken the cup west the previous Saturday winning the Men’s Football 7s in Crokes. Player of the Tournament was Leanne Coen No 8 from Corofin, who had been outstanding throughout the competition.

Special thanks to the 12 referees for their commitment throughout the day and the Red Cross who were busy in the three venues and to Coláiste Eoin and Finín Máirtín for their pitch and facility and to the Kilmacud Crokes members who contributed all day from early morning to make this 10th 7s a memorable occasion.
