Kilmacud Crokes Ladies Football All Ireland Under 14 Seven A Side 2006 Kilmacud Crokes Ladies Football held their annual U14 seven -a-side competition on Saturday 30th. September 2006 which this year we are delighted to say was granted All Ireland status. Again this year there was huge interest with 32 teams representing 25 counties. This in itself confirms that ladies football is one of Ireland’s fastest growing sports. It also gave the opportunity to some of the 2006 Feile teams to meet again and challenge for another major title this year. Teams representing all four provinces from as far a field as Donegal and Cork commenced battle at about 10.30 am. Following 8 groups of four teams leading on to the Cup and Plate competitions, 76 games later the finals finally concluded with the Cup final between The Banner Ladies Club Clare (reigning All Ireland Feile champions getting the better of Oldcastle, Meath in a thrilling final. The Plate likewise was a brilliant game with Tullamore Ladies from Offaly finally coming out in top Garrycasele of Westmeath.. The player of the tournament was Naomi Carroll of The Banner Ladies who received the most referees votes over the Day. Despite the inclement weather particularily in the morning the whole competition was completed in good humour and terrific sportsmanship which augers well for the future. The night was complete with a great night of “craic agus ceol”at Kilmacud Crokes thanks in no small part to the music and talent supplied by Dromahair team and supporters from Leitrim.
