Kilrush Ladies Win Their First Under 14 Title Kilrush Ladies Football Club Win Their First Under 14 County Championship. Under lights in Miltown on Friday night. Kilrush Ladies football club won their first under 14 County championship when they defeated favourites Doorabarefield by 4-5 to 1-3 in the Division 2 decider. The game was on a knife edge right up to the last 10 minutes until 10 year old Chantal Burke latched on to a Sarah Shannon pass to rifle a ball to the Doorabarefield net and put Kilrush into a 2 goal lead. Doorabarefield played with the wind in the first half and went into an early lead with a smashing catch and point from 30 yards from Full Forward Megan O’Brien following excellent work between wing forward Orla Mulchrone and Orla O’Reilly on the stand side of the field. Kilrush replied when Kayla Crowley drove up field carrying the ball into the wind and played a sweet pass to midfielder Aine Brown who scored with her left leg from and acute angle. Then Aine Browne scored a second point with her right leg from a free won by the hard working Chloe Scully. Doorabarefield then went into the lead when Emer Casey played a long ball to Clare Purcell who won a free 40 yards from the Kilrush goal. Doorabarefield Captain Becky Devine scored a fine goal when her long range free dropped in to the top left corner of the Kilrush net. Then Kilrushs team Captain Jenny Ryan soloed from centre back and released Aine Brown who played a neat one two with Shannon Carroll and finished to the Doorabarefield net. Becky Devine and Aine Brown Exchanged points leaving the score tied at 1-3 at half time. With a strong wind at their backs Kilrush started to dominate the third quarter, 2 long balls delivered to full forward Caitriona Crowe were laid off to Suzie Williams and Aileen Glynn who both scored to put Kilrush 2 point up, 1-5 to 1-3. Then a fine goal by midfielder Jenny Ryan after a great solo run by Aoife Carrig gave Kilrush some breathing space. Doorabarefield rallied and were unlucky not to score a goal on 3 separate occasions wheb they had possession in front of the Kilrush Goal. But a couple of fine saves by Kilrush keeper Michelle Downes and excellent defending by Kilrushs Player of the Match Full back Kay Walsh kept them at bay. In the final 10 minutes excellent team work and slick passing by Doorabarefield Midfielders Ciara Davenport and Laura Power created a number of good scoring chances but they were again snuffed out by a resilient Kilrush defence with Jessie Gilligan and Louise Hall prominent leaving the score to 2-5 to 1-3.
