Mourneabbey announced their arrival in the All Ireland
series with a comprehensive victory over Connacht champions,
Oran. The Munster champions were simply in a league of
their own as they completely dominated this match from
the throw-in. Oran had been fancied by many to really
test the Mourneabbey ladies but they simply could not
cope with their fluid passing movements and work off the
ball. Just as in the Munster final Sile O’Callaghan &
Siobhan Forde lorded it at midfield forcing their highly
rated opponents, Caroline Feely & Sinead Cooney, to feed
on scraps. Cathy Ann Stack superbly marshalled Oran’s
danger woman, Charmaine Cooney, who had scored 2.02 in
the Connacht final. Sandra Conroy whose frequent runs
out of defence had the Oran players back peddling at a
rate of knots very ably assisted the latter. Though the
score at half time read 0.08 to 1.02 it simply did not
reflect Mourneabbey’s overall dominance.

Indeed
2 minutes into the second half the flood gates finally
opened when firstly Sile O’Callaghan fed a superb ball
to centre forward, Kathleen O’Brien, and she planted it
in the Oran net, and then O’Callaghan was put through
on goal through a great inter change of passes with Jenny
Luddy & Eva O’Donoghue to score the first of her two goals.
Further goals from Kathleen O’Brien, Siobhan Forde & Ciara
O’Sullivan brought the curtain down on this particular
encounter.

will now play the London champions in Cork on November
6th.
