Ladies Football Article The Ladies Football Central Council will meet in Tullamore tomorrow night to decide on two contentious motions put before it by two senior counties regarding relegation from this year’s Senior Championship. Meath and Donegal have both submitted motions to Central Council for the abolition of relegation in this year’s Senior Championship because of Leitrim’s failure to compete. Due to internal problems, last year’s Intermediate Champions, Leitrim, were unable to compete in this year’s Senior Championship. Both Meath and Donegal faced relegation from the top flight following their early elimination from the Championship and subsequently lodged a complaint with Central Council stating that it was unfair for either county to face relegation when a team who did not compete in the Championship received an exemption. Since two counties submitted official notice to Central Council all Championship relegation play-offs have been put on hold. Delegates from each county competing in the Championships will attend tomorrow’s meeting in the Tullamore Court Hotel to vote on the motions submitted by Meath and Donegal. Cuman Peil Gael na mBan President Geraldine Giles, who will preside over the Central Council meeting in Tullamore, said, “The delegates agreed on the format of this year’s Championship back in November as we moved from a Champions League style format to a Qualifier structure for the Senior Championship. The agreed format included details for relegation play-offs. The situation in Leitrim has put us in an unfortunate position and a 2/3 majority will now be required to amend the Championship framework at this juncture.” In other news, the referees report on Valerie Mulcahy’s red card for dissent has been received by Cuman Peil Gael na mBan. Referee Liam McDonagh’s report will determine whether the Cork star receives the minimum two week ban for threatening or abusive language under Rule 455 (K) or faces a lengthier ban which could rule the Rockbán forward out of the All Ireland final on the 28th September. One thing the triple All Star has ruled herself out of is adding to her collection of All Star Awards this year as under Rule 266, a player will not be considered for an All Star if they receive a straight red card during the calendar year.
