Cork’s top scorer, Valerie Mulcahy will be available to play in the All-Ireland final against Monaghan on Sunday week. The Ladies Gaelic Football Association Disciplinary Committee met last night to discuss the forward’s sending off in the semi-final win over Tyrone when she got a red card for dissent.

Mulcahy received the minimum two week ban which will expire this Saturday. Although she has ruled herself out of an All Star selection this year under Rule 266, which rules any player who receives a straight red card out of consideration, she is still in contention to win the Golden Boot.

Mayo’s Cora Staunton is currently top of the table 11 points ahead of her Cork opposite, but with Mulcahy having scored 2-1 in the 2007 All-Ireland final, the extra four points she would need to beat the player she finished runner up to last year are not out of her reach.

Ahead of the final, the Fixtures Committee will meet on Friday 26th September to set dates for the 2008 Senior Championship relegation play-offs following a meeting of delegates at Central Council in Tullamore.

Meath and Donegal had placed motions before the Central Council to abolish relegation from the Senior Championship this year, but failed to secure the two-thirds majority needed to amend the new Championship structures established in November of last year.

The two counties will now play-off against one another and the loser from that game will play Waterford to decide who is relegated to the Intermediate Championship for the following season.

At the same time, the Central Council passed a motion that any County who gained promotion to a higher grade Championship on winning an All-Ireland would be exempt from participating in the relegation championship for two years.

As a result, Kilkenny will be exempt from the relegation championship at Intermediate level for 2008 and 2009. Westmeath are now deemed last in Group B and will play Limerick in the Intermediate championship relegation play off. Leitrim will be exempt from the relegation championship for 2009 and 2010 as they did not participate in the 2008 championship.
