Ladies Football – Club Championship Reaches Final Stages

Ladies Football – Club Championship
Reaches Final Stages
It is a bumper weekend of action in the Vhi Healthcare
All Ireland Ladies Club Championships with senior provincial finals
taking place in Munster, Ulster and Connacht.

The Munster Final sees Waterford’s Ballymacabry taking on
Juliet Murphy’s Donoughmore from Cork. Donoughmore won the
All Ireland Club Championship in 2001 and 2003 and were runners-up
in 2004, so they know what it takes to make it all the way to the
final.

Juliet Murphy said, “Ballymac have a great history in this
competition and they recently won the 7’s so they have a very
strong side. They beat us four or five times in the Munster Final
but since 2001 we have been getting the better of them and hopefully
we can do the same on Sunday.”

However, Ballymacabry are a vertitable who’s who of Waterford
representative football and their team includes 8 players who lined
out against Armagh in the All Ireland Championship quarter-finals.

Ballymacabry are the most success team in the history of the competition,
winning 10 All Ireland Club Championship titles in a twelve year
period with their last title coming in 1998.

Out west, Mayo All Star Cora Staunton will line out for her clubside
Carnacon as they take on St Brigid’s from Roscommon in the
Senior Connacht Final. Carnacon beat Galway’s Corofin to book
their spot in the final and St Brigid’s accounted for Leitrim’s
Aughawillan to secure their place in the Connacht Final.

Three Ulster finals will take place this weekend with all three
grades, Junior, Intermediate and Senior to be decided on Sunday.
Donaghmoyne, who lost out to Ballyboden St Enda’s in last year’s
All Ireland Club Championship final, can call on eight players from
the Monaghan squad for their Ulster final clash with Carrickmore
of Tyrone.

Meanwhile, the Ladies International Rules panel will play a Challenge
Match against TG4’s Under Dogs this Friday in Cavan. The match
will be used as a warm up ahead of the two Tests against Australia,
the first of which takes place in Breffni Park on Tuesday 31st,
October.
