TG4 Senior Ladies Football Championship Final Preview

This is the showpiece final that all neutrals wanted.  The two best sides in the Championship will battle it out for the biggest prize in the ladies game.

Mayo know that they can beat Cork, having done so earlier in the season in a National League semi-final and with Cora Staunton averaging over 10 points per game the Westerners have one of the most prolific scorers in the game.  However, if Cora doesn’t fire Mayo may be in trouble.

Cork may be feeling the pressure with a historic treble is in the offing but the Rebelettes have demonstrated in recent weeks why they are still the team to beat.  Two devastating displays in the knock-out stages against Dublin and Laois have made Cork the clear favorites.

TG4 Intermediate Ladies Football Championship Final Preview

Leitrim should enter this game as slight favorites having already beaten Wexford earlier in the Championship.  However, Wexford will have benefited from the extra game time they have garnered having gone through an extra knock-out round.

The wins against Cavan and Tipperary will stand the Model County in good stead as will the fact that a number of their key players had a winning experience at Croke Park in recent weeks with the county’s camogie team.

Leitrim only had to play three Championship games to reach the final and their lack of competitive action was highlighted by Clare in the semi-finals.  Leitrim lost out to Sligo in last year’s Junior final so this team have a point to prove and will not be overawed by the occasion.  An added incentive for Leitrim is the opportunity to claim the Mary Quinn Memorial Cup in it’s inaugural year.  The trophy is named after a stalwart of Leitrim Ladies Football.

TG4 Junior Ladies Football Championship Final Preview

London are contesting their first final since 1993 while Kilkenny are playing in their first ever football final.

Kilkenny are a strong physical side who impressed early on in the season in the National League.  Wins for the Cats over Carlow, Wicklow and Derry assured them a date at Croke Park.

London edged past Carlow to book their place in the final and the Exiles will look to their Antipodean contingent to bring some Aussie Rule style metal to their free flowing football.
