Ladies Football Manager of the Month for March

Galway manager Gay O’Brien has been awarded the Bord Gáis Energy / Irish Daily Star Manager of the Month award for March following a tremendous run of results for the Tribeswomen.

At the end of March, against all the odds Galway were the only team surviving unbeaten in division 1 following a draw with All-Ireland champions Cork and victories over traditional stalwarts of the game, Laois and Cora Staunton’s Mayo.

On receiving his award, Gay said, “This award is a huge tribute to Galway ladies football and all the hard work that has been put in over the past year. I’d like to thank in particular the coaching staff, including trainer Nigel Concannon, Breda Molloy and Donie O’Keeffe. We have come a long way in a short space of time but we’re determined to keep the momentum going and to build on the run we’ve had in the League over the rest of the season.”

Speaking at the award presentation, Ger Cunningham, Sports Sponsorship Manager, Bord Gáis Energy, said, “Gay deserves recognition for the work he has done with Galway in this, his first year managing the team.

“Galway have had some outstanding results to bring them to the semi finals of division 1 and Laois certainly won’t be underestimating them this time round. Bord Gáis Energy is delighted to be able to give Gay this award and we wish him the very best of luck over the coming season.”
