Ladies Football Sign Three Year Deal with Tesco

Ladies Gaelic Football unveiled Tesco as the brand new sponsor of the All Ireland Club Championships at Croke Park. 

Tesco becomes the title sponsor of the national club competition across all three grades, Senior, Intermediate and Junior. Ladies Football is the largest female participation sport in the country and with over 1000 clubs affiliated to Cumann Peil Gael na mBan the club game is thriving both at home and abroad. The current sponsorship deal runs from 2009 to 2011.

 

Mayo’s Carnacon are the current Senior All Ireland Champions and last year’s senior final attracted a television viewership of 201,000, a 7.7% share of the total TV viewership. The reigning All Ireland Intermediate Club champions are Emyvale of Monaghan while Clare’s Kilmihil won the 2008 Junior All Ireland title.

 

Carnacon will be denied the three in a row as they were defeated by Donoughmore of Cork in last weekend’s All Ireland semi-final. The Cork champions will face Monaghan’s Donaghmoyne in the senior final on Sunday 29th November.

 

Ladies Football currently boasts over 135,000 registered members. The Association has affiliated leagues in North & South America, the UK, Australia, Asia, and across mainland Europe. Cumann Peil Gael na mBan has pioneered a number of new initiatives to promote female participation is sport including the Gaelic4Girls and Gaelic4Mothers programmes.

 

Speaking at the sponsorship announcement, Helen O’Rourke, CEO of Ladies Gaelic Football, said, “We are delighted to welcome Tesco on board as a sponsor of one of our top national competitions. The club championships highlight the important role Ladies Football plays within local communities and I am sure that our new partnership with Tesco will help us to continue to develop our game at a grassroots level.

Tesco will also be the title sponsor of the Ladies Football Club Person of the Year Awards which recognise and celebrate individuals who play a vital role within their club and community. The Tesco Senior All Ireland Club final Donaghmoyne (Monaghan) v Donoughmore (Cork) which takes place on Sunday 29th November will be televised by TG4.
