Ladies Hope To Graduate Ladies Footballers Hope to Graduate with Honours in Colleges Competitions The Third Level ladies footballers will travel to UUJ this weekend for the annual Colleges finals which will take place over two days at the Jordanstown campus. The weekend schedule will see sixteen teams from thirteen different universities compete across five individual competitions. The highlight of the weekend will be the O’Connor Cup which was won last year by UUJ at their third attempt. The Ulster side emerged victorious over IT Sligo with a scoreline of 0-14 to 1-3, having finished runners up in this competition in 2006 and 2007. The Jordanstown outfit put in a determined performance and this will be looking for a repeat on home ground this year. If they defeat DCU in their semi final, they will go on to face either Queen’s University Belfast or University of Limerick in the final. In this weekend’s other competitions NUI Maynooth and IT Tralee will battle it out in the O’Connor Shield, while Liverpool Hope will be looking to avenge four Lynch Cup final defeats in a row if they manage victory over St. Mary’s in the semi final. The 2009 Lynch Shield Final will be an all Dublin affair with Trinity College set to face DCU’s second team and the Donaghy Cup & Shield will produce a brand new winner from Queen’s University seconds, Royal College of Surgeons Ireland, UCD thirds and the combined IT team from Tallaght and Blanchardstown. “The Colleges weekend is the highlight of the third level football calendar and is an exciting two days of condensed competitive action,” said Pat Quill, President of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association. “Ladies Football is a healthy social outlet for university students and provides welcome opportunity for friendships to be developed. Moreover, these teams often contain inter-county players and All Star award winners and it is of huge benefit for players with different skill sets to interact with each other to develop their game.” Share this Article 0 0
