Ladies Night with Bonniconlon G4M&O

“It all began last year with a quick whatsapp message to some of the girls!!”

Bonniconlon ladies GAA club has been closed over 10 years. They are a small club in the north west of Ireland. Late last year after asking around it was evident the village still wanted a ladies team, but they just couldn’t commit to being a competitive side again. So Gaelic4Mothers&Others in Bonniconlon was born!!

Starting from scratch again they decided after a trial period last year to start up this year again, and with that much needed funds were required. They brainstormed between the group of 25-30 ladies they have registered and decided on having a Ladies themed night for their fundraiser, as after all it was for the ladies so they thought other local ladies might come out in force to support them.

With makeup, hair and fashion being so important these days – they decided to rope in a few of the local talented girls they had right on our doorstep. They invited a skincare expect Niamh from Bella Beauty to speak on the night and answering all questions for everyone skin related. Next they had a Make up Artist, Jenny Beattie, a local freelance makeup artist based in Ballina. And finally the club rounded the night off with hair tips and tutorial by their very own team member Sinead O Malley.

Prior to the night lots and lots of preparations went into the night. This included asking local businesses for sponsorship or prizes for the night, advertisement and printing of posters and updating Facebook. They had the pleasure of having VIP wedding company fit out their venue with beautiful drapes and decorations. Bonniconlon also invited jewellery company “Always make a statement” and sweet company “Candy Hogs” to the event to set up stands and they were open for purchases during half time and after the event.

The venue was a local pub, which had a great space that was used, also owned by a team member!! The group soon realised that between all of them they have a lot of resources. They seated 90 ladies on the night and were at full capacity. The club sold tickets for seats prior to the night to give themselves a good indication on the interest. Bonniconlon G4M&O also held a main draw on the night which involved selling tickets during the weeks leading to the event and they also had over 40 prizes on the night for the ladies – so the chances of winning were high!!

After the night was over the club received a lot of great feedback from the night, from the attention to detail with the ladies orientated entrance with procecco to the MC’s character that added to the night.

But more importantly every lady that left the event that night were more informed on the importance of ladies gaelic football, team bonding and the evidence of the successful club that has now been set up. They have gained new members since the event and plan on having something similar in the later months of the year again with the great response received.

Bonniconlon G4M&O are delighted to have created more knowledge about their new club and it got lots of people talking. Up next they have our first challenge game against local club Crossmolina so there is great commitment and training going on in Bonniconlon. They are looking forward to completing some blitzes this year and getting to know all the girls better.

Well done Bonniconlon Gaelic4Mothers&Others!
