Ladies Referees Course in Longford A course for ladies referees and prospective referees was held in Pearse Park, Longford on Friday February 23rd under the auspices of the Ladies County Board. This was the first course of its kind held in Longford. It was conducted by National Development Officer Pat Quill and attended by twenty-five members from various clubs in the county. In addition to possible referees team managers and coaches had also been invited to attend and a number of them did so. Of the group three are existing referees and nine are potential referees with some but very little experience of refereeing. All those who attended felt that the course had been both useful and constructive. Stretching over just two and half hours it was, of necessity, intensive but the participants were fully concentrated and gave undivided attention. The course is divided into two sections with the first devoted to duties of the referee and the second to rules of the game. Time was allowed for some questions. Tommie O’Donoghue, Chairman of the Ladies County Board and himself an experienced referee, thanked Pat Quill for travelling from Wexford to conduct the course which he felt would be of immense assistance to the new referees who will be put to work immediately.
