Laois enjoy opening victory

The Laois Senior Ladies Footballers and their new management team of Tom McKittrick, Gabriel Lawlor and Sue Ramsbottom got their Tesco Homegrown LGFA NFL Division 1 campaign off to a winning start on Sunday with a 1-16 to 1-9 win over Donegal in Bundoran.

Laois led by 0-8 to 0-5 at half-time, and continued their impressive form in the second half, despite going 1-8 to 0-8 in arrears early on the restart.

A Martina Dunne goal gave Laois a 1-11 to 1-9 lead with 12 minutes remaining and Laois tagged on five further points without reply in the closing stages to ensure a seven-point win.

Also among the scorers for Laois on Sunday were Tracey Lawlor, Anna Moore, Martha Kirwan, Laura Marie Maher, Maureen Nerney and Aisling Kehoe.

Laois are once again on their travels next weekend where they face Tyrone.
