Laois overcome Donegal

Donegal ladies made their debut in the TESCO HomeGrown National Football League in Bundoran on Sunday in the only game they will play on home soil in the League and after a gusty start in which they scored two points from Geraldine Mc Laughlin and Eilish Ward from a free they were behind for most of the half.

Laois replied with scores from Tracy Lawlor (3), Martina Dunne, Laura Marie Maher, Martina Dunne, Maureen Nerney, Aisling Quigley. Donegal replied with scores from Geraldine McLaughlin, Lorraine Molloy and Amber Barrett to leave half time score Laoise 0–8 to Donegal’s 0–5.

Donegal started the second with style and momentum and scored a goal and two points without reply. The points coming from Amber Barrett and Karen Guthrie with a cool finish from Geraldine McLaughlin putting the home side ahead for the first time in the second half.

However, Laois proved that they have made good use of their pre-season training as their fitness showed for the rest of the half with points from Maggie Murphy and Martina Dunne who also added a crucial goal along with 5 points from the impressive Tracey Lawlor, including 3 frees, along with a score from Martha Kirwan to restore Laois’s lead.

Donegal responded with 2 pointed frees from Amber Barrett but they could not close the gap and lost by 7 points after a good game of football.

Final Score: DONEGAL 1-9                  Laois 1–16.
