Leinster Gaelic4Mothers&Others Blitz Continues to Grow

Fun and Football were the order of the day in Páirc Chiaráin as the sun shone down over 400 Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others players,  when Athlone GAA hosted the Leinster Blitz for the second year running on Saturday 22nd July.  The Leinster Blitz is one of the main events on the LGFA calendar for G4M&O teams and is not only confined to teams from Leinster, in fact 11 different counties from 3 provinces were represented on the day.

The day began with a group warm up on Athlone GAA’s main pitch, which was conducted by Edel Larkin from Unique Health and Fitness, Monksland.  Edel got everyone’s heart rate up in a high tempo warm up which set the tone for the day!  This was followed by over 3 hours of back to back matches on Athlone’s 3 pitches.  There were some fine displays of football on show, with the non competitive ethos of Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others running out as the winner on the day.  The fun didn’t end on the pitch, Athlone hosted a BBQ which was kindly sponsored by John Kennedy of Supermacs, and a 50/50 draw took place which saw a delighted Aine Carey from Skerries G4M&O winning a cash prize of €750.  Music by Brian Carr kept the party going in the bar into the night!  More info and pictures can been seen on Athlone Gaelic 4 Mothers and Others Facebook page.  The Athlone G4M&O team would like to thank all the volunteers that helped on the day and to the local businesses that support them, especially Unique Health and Fitness,  Supermacs and The Bounty Bar and Restaurant.
