Leinster Intermediate and Junior Club Reports

Leinster Intermediate Club Championship

Bray Emmets (Wicklow) 1-9 Geraldine O’Hanrahans (Wexford)
1-7

Bray Emmets scraped through to the second round after
an enthralling battle with Geraldine O’Hanrahans from
New Ross. Although O’Hanrahans had the better of the
early exchanges and dominated midfield during the
first half Bray took what opportunities came their
way and went in at the break three points to the good
thanks to a Sinead Boland goal. the Wexford side put
Bray’s defence under huge pressure in the second half
and deservedly got back on level terms midway though
the half. But although they put in a below-par performance
Bray’s gritty determination saw them through, they
rallied to set up Catherine Corbett for two late points
to seal it. It wasn’t pretty football but both side’s
battling qualities ensured an entertaining match for
the spectators. Bray probably just deserved to shade
it, but will need to lift their game in the next round
if they are progress; however after an excellent performance
in the county final they know they are capable of
doing so.

Leinster Junior Championship

Clongeen 3-10 Arklow Geraldines 2-4

In the Leinster junior championship Wicklow champions
Arklow came up against an extremely strong Clongeen
outfit on Saturday evening. Having made the long trip
to south Wexford Arklow had a poor start and were
four points down early on. Although they gradually
got into the game and put it up to Clongeen a full
comeback was just a bit too much for them. 15-year-old
corner forward Liz Fahy was the Arklow star on the
day with 2-1 from play. Although deeply disappointed
by this result Arklow will be heartened by their excellent
performances in Wicklow this year which augurs well
for their debut at senior level next year.
