LEINSTER U14 LEAGUE.

WICKLOW 4-5 LOUTH 3-9

Despite having no score on the board at the
half time interval Wicklow’s young guns came within
a point of sharing the spoils with Louth when
they met on Saturday last in Greystones .This
was certainly a game of two halves, Louth were
two points to the good within six minutes of the
start, the first from half forward Michelle McMahon
and one from corner forward Claire McCann. .McMahon
struck again in the eight minute putting the ball
past the Wicklow keeper Paula Fox,While Louth’s
pacey winger Kate Flood was having a good game
on the right flank despite the close attention
of Wicklow ’s Maoiliosa Nugent, aqnd it was Flood
who supplied a well weighted pass for Aoife Byrne
to tag on another point .
Wicklow were battling hard and were worth a score
at this stage, Ciara Doyle supported by Shauna
Hilley Loretta Gilbert, and Clair Kavanagh in midfield
was unlucky not to put a number of scorable chances
away for the home side.
However it was Louth who continued their scoring
blitz, Terri Englishby, Michelle McMahon, Lizzie
butterly, and Sarah Hamill notching up four more
points, finishing the half 1-7, with no reply
from the Wicklow side. After only a minute of
the restart the home side suffered another setback
when Louths only scorer of the second half Claire
McCann added one goal and two points bringing
their tally to three goals and nine points.
Wicklow’s blistering spell started with Shauna
Hilley, taking four points two from frees, followed
by excellent interplay between Colleen Byrne,
Aisling Mahon and Caoimhe Murphy resulting in
two of Ciara Doyles three goals, reducing Wicklow’s
deficit to two points all within eleven minutes
of the start, Ciara had a fourth goal disallowed
when referee David McCabe deemed that Doyle had
taken too many steps.
Paula Fox Pulled off a number of excellent saves
during the half to keep Wicklow in touch, inspiring
wicklow to continue pressurising the louth defence, their
persistance paid off when Colleen Byrne notched
up a goal and a point in the final minutes of
the match.
