LGFA, Lidl Ireland & Jigsaw Launch ‘Be Positive’ Week to Promote Positive Youth Mental Health

The Ladies Gaelic Football Association, its official retail partner, Lidl Ireland, and Jigsaw, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health, are teaming up to roll out five days of special online activity from Monday June 1-Friday June 5.

Part of a wider initiative that Lidl Ireland has launched by bringing its two corporate partners together to support youths through the COVID-19 pandemic, the partners have designed a ‘Be Positive’ Week which features 5 key themes: Keep Learning, Take Notice, Be Active, Connect & Give.

Each theme will be explored by Lidl One Good Club ambassadors across the five days, via specially-commissioned videos.

The LGFA is asking all of its members to get involved and support young people across the country, and to assist young members to also help themselves.

Many LGFA members across the country were due to begin their State Examinations next week and they, along with many other young players, are trying to deal with added stress and pressure during these unprecedented times.

‘Be Positive’ Week Schedule:

Donegal’s Emer Gallagher will bring social media viewers information on ‘Keep Learning’ and ‘Give’ on Monday and Friday respectively, to kickstart and bookend the five days of activity.

On Tuesday, Galway’s Nicola Ward will explore the ‘Take Notice’ theme, before handing over to Waterford’s Caoimhe McGrath on Wednesday for ‘Be Active’.

On Thursday, Dublin player Carla Rowe will bring viewers her ‘Connect’ video and each of these pieces can be viewed on the LGFA’s social media channels at 9:30am each morning, Monday through to Friday.

These videos will contain details of what each message means, and sample activities that a young person could complete to help assist with their mental health.

The ambassadors will also call on young people to upload their own messages, using the hashtag #SeriousSupport, to show what they are doing on that day to match and mirror the theme.

In addition, the ambassadors will encourage other players and coaches across the country to share what they are doing, all with the aim of supporting positive mental health among their young players.

Lidl One Good club ambassador Nicola Ward commented: “In times like this, especially, it’s important that we tune in our mental health, and look out for each other, and look out for ourselves as well.”

Lidl One Good club ambassador Caoimhe McGrath added: “It is very important that we look out for each other. It’s brilliant the way that Lidl, the LGFA and Jigsaw have partnered together…we encourage everybody to join in and share videos of what they’re doing.”

In 2018, Lidl Ireland partnered with Jigsaw, pledging to raise €1million and grow national awareness of youth mental health.

Through this partnership, Lidl Ireland have empowered communities throughout Ireland with initiatives including ‘One Good School’ and ‘One Good Club’, by advancing the mental health of young people and developing supportive communities nationwide.

The initiative comes as Lidl has introduced a number of additional measures to help support local communities through the coronavirus pandemic including dedicated shopping hours for older and more vulnerable customers, priority measures for frontline healthcare workers, dedicated coronavirus food donation appeals and in-store protective measures for customers and employees.

Jigsaw are also running a Team challenge during the week for any clubs or counties that want to get involved, with all proceeds going to Jigsaw. Full details are available HERE.
