LGFA President leads tributes to Jimmy Corbett (Carnacon), RIP

Uachtarán Cumann Peil Gael na mBan Marie Hickey has extended her deepest sympathies and those of the entire Association to the family of the late Jimmy Corbett, who has passed away.

Jimmy was the founder of the famed Carnacon club in county Mayo in 1986, and senior team manager with the reigning county and Connacht senior champions.

Since Carnacon’s foundation, the club has won six All-Ireland Senior Club titles, 16 Connacht crowns, and 20 county championship win, along with various underage titles.

“All of us at the Ladies Gaelic Football Association are deeply saddened to learn of Jimmy Corbett’s passing.

“Jimmy was the founder and senior team manager with Mayo champions Carnacon, who have enjoyed incredible success in recent times.

“Underpinning Carnacon’s numerous titles at county, provincial and national level was the selfless work of Jimmy at various levels within the club.

“His coaching nurtured a host of top class players who would go on to represent their club and county with distinction.

“Little did Jimmy know when he founded the Carnacon club in 1986 how much success would follow.

“He’s been spoken about by numerous players in almost reverential tones and those who benefited from Jimmy’s coaching have had nothing but good things to say about him.

“Jimmy’s loss to Carnacon and Mayo is incalculable but he leaves behind a legacy that will endure for generations to come.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to Jimmy’s family and friends at this very sad time.”

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
